The Power of Play

ABSTRACT ART IS THE RHYTHM OF A DANCE, THE PULSE OF A POEM AND A THROD OF MIRRORED PATTERN OF ONE’S OWN MEMOIRS. (Ia Crous- My Passion, Your Pride, Volume 1)

The global uncertainty in middle 2020 and the fact we started to feel the financial impact of “lock-downs,” set in motion a time to play like a child. Starting with gelli plate printing for days on end I created over 900 A4 and A3 mono-prints. Loud music in the studio unintentionally mirrors my longing to travel to the origin of why and where I bought the music. The music, colors and stencils chose me, resulting in crazy variegated quilt effects.

Relaxed and well satisfied with all these deli-, tissue- and other prints, my next question was “what if?”. I want these special memoirs to convey the magic, fantasy, and playfulness.

Tearing, pushing, moving, and organizing the monoprints started to make sense. Gluing these torn pieces on unprinted muslin sets the mood and theme of each artwork.

The intriguing process of symbols, color, mark-making, a treasure hunt in more collage pieces for the puzzle, in playful application, and thoughtful execution captured the memories.

With gratitude I celebrate the conquering of the gloom and doom of covid pandemic.
